 |
The Berlin Jazzfestival 2004 will take place from
4 - 7 November.
The programme on offer for the 40th anniversary of the festival is
dedicated to those creative people and artists who have made the Berlin
Jazzfestival what it is today. Homages are therefore a defining characteristic
of this year, although they are not necessarily labelled as such:
As in the founding year of 1964 names such as Zbigniew Namyslowski, Albert Mangelsdorff,
once again a brass band from New Orleans and even “Coleman Hawkins”
appear on the current programme, alongside Michael Blake or Jan von Klewitz (Yakou
Tribe), both born in the same year. “Tributes” recall Fats Waller,
Eric Dolphy and Billy Higgins.
In addition to the “glance at the past”, the festival also lends eye
and ear to current and multicultural subjects, resting on Holland (Reijseger’s
Système D, Boi Akih, amongst others) and England (Acoustic Ladyland, Dennis
Rollins).
The main hall of the Philharmonie will once again host the ‘JazzFest’;
the Kulturbrauerei joins as a new venue.
[And if you simply want to enjoy good, exciting, intense music at
the Berlin Jazzfestival regardless of this instruction manual: …anytime!]
